{look up ... way up: ceiling fretwork}

I'm in love with architectural details in a room, panelling makes me weak in the knees! But we don't have to limit our thinking to our vertical walls, what about the ceiling? In a room that lacks architectural details, consider an intricate plaster ceiling installation. Gorgeous, aren't they?

Look into the mirror below to see the full effect in the room:

I just adore the effect of this type of delicate molding detail. Sarah Richardson called it 'wedding cake' plaster fretwork on her show, but whatever you call it, it's stunning. I'd love to have the chance to do this in a room one day!

I adore this look. I tried to find something similiar for my living room to no avail. I would like to hang a chandelier in my living room and my thinking is that the wiring can hide in the fretwork.. So it would provide form and function. =)

I REALLY love that room by Michael Abrams.. even without a bit of accessorizing.. it's beautiful.

Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous ceilings! I first fell in love with this look when Sarah Richardson installed an elegant, plaster ceiling in a master bedroom years ago.
Have a lovely day, Nancy!

For our new house we could finally afford to do it right and did some intersting ceiling details in our living room and our family room. I think most people underestimate how much of a difference having a plain ceiling vs. a decorative ceiling can make. Love these examples and enjoy your blog.

I watched that episode of Sarah Richardson's Design Inc. The client pushed back all the way on the ceiling fretwork until the grand reveal (and she was floored of course). It looks so dramatic yet sophisticated! Thanks for sharing.

I have done so many searches online trying to figure out how to buy the materials for this. I've tried all sorts of keywords, to no avail. Anyone know where you actually get the materials? Do they have to be custom-made? What kind of craftsperson makes them? Who did them on Sarah's show?

Thanks!
Andrea
